Java chat is good for new users, but the best way to access chat is through IRC, and these are two programs through which you can do it. Most people tend to use mIRC, although the more technical members of the chat team claim XChat is the greatest thing ever created. Its a matter of personal preference really. The server is irc.teencentre.net, port 6667.
